my name is dawn and i am 21 years old
i grew up in Washington D.C.. its one of those places like Hawaii or Vegas, you just don't find a lot of people who actually grew up in the place... public note 9 out of 10 people who say they are from D.C. are NOT from D.C. they are from some place "right out side of it" or can get to the metro system but don't live in the city limits . ask them they will say ..." well i live in silver springs" I'm on the yellow line or some other bull.
i loved it there, you can walk down the street and hear conversations going on in like 5 different languages. people love to let you know who they are and what they believe in. they where it on there sleeve and if you ask them they'll tell you in a heart beat. Gay rights, Muslim faith, Yes Ethiopians do have food and its dalishious... i relay do believe that there is at least one person from every city in the world thats ever had a person in the states in Washington D.C., its that diverse.
just for kicks we would rally and protest when i was in high-school, there was always something going on. our schools aren't that good but i think that I'm more awhere of what's going on around me, as far as politics and world issues, than most because of growing up there and taking advantage of all the city has to teach and offer.
but now i live in sucky Florida and everything here is so backwards. you have to fight just to cross cultural boundaries, or find out what matters to people and relate to them. i think its because not much matters to the people down here that they are willing to act on other than what's going on in there everyday lives. and thats OK, cuz life down here sucks. the government and the people responsible for the development of Tampa Florida relay have there heads up there ass in search of the next buck. i don't see an effort to create a community, just another housing development, no effort to create good jobs for the people who live here just a niche in corporate life. and the lack of transit makes it hard to get along with out a car, so how r people suppose to find a job and keep it with out cars that they cant afford because they have no job.?
i miss city life it was much more conducive to a forward and progressive environment
but for now i am here because of my famly, whome i love. so i will endure Florida, finish school and hope to some day visit all of the other intresting cittys in the world
